Benco was founded in March 1970 in Richelieu, in the Montérégie, on the initiative of Yves Benoit. The family business quickly established itself as a central player in compact machinery on Montreal's South Shore thanks to a bold bet made from the start: becoming the exclusive Quebec distributor of Schäffer, a German manufacturer of compact wheel loaders founded in 1957 and based in Erwitte, Westphalia.
This partnership with Schäffer, unbroken since 1970, is today Benco's signature. The entire lineup — articulated-chassis compact loaders (2428-2, 2430 SLT, 3650 SLT, 4670) and telescopic loaders (3650T, 5680T, 6680T, 9640T) — is represented in Quebec by Benco, which keeps new and used units on permanent demonstration in Richelieu.
The family handover happens naturally: Sylvain Benoit succeeds his father Yves as president and continues the expansion. The offering broadens: Hitachi (Zaxis excavators and ZW-6 Series loaders), Caterpillar (M-Series 906M, 907M, 908M loaders), Transmanut (pallet trucks and stackers from France) and Erskine Attachments (Minnesota, skid steer and compact loader attachments). An in-house sub-brand is even developed: the Benco-Schäffer sidewalk snow removers (models 3650MAX and 4670MAX), adapted to Canadian municipal requirements.
Today, Benco employs 25 people and works in symbiosis with its sister company Location Benoit Inc., which covers short- and long-term rental. The Richelieu mechanical workshop services the entire fleet across every distributed brand, with a stock of genuine parts ready to act on jobsites throughout the Montérégie, the Eastern Townships and beyond.
Team
Presidency
Sylvain Benoit provides the strategic leadership of Benco. Liaison with manufacturers (notably Schäffer in Germany), institutional partnerships and long-term direction. A natural succession after Yves Benoit, who founded the company in 1970.
Sales team
New and used machinery sales advisors for Quebec and neighbouring provinces. Specialists in Schäffer compact loaders and how they complement Hitachi, Caterpillar and Transmanut depending on the client's requirements.
Mechanical workshop
Construction equipment mechanics (a CCQ trade) specialized in diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions and electrical systems. Maintenance and repair for every distributed brand. Mobile service available across the South Shore and Montérégie.
Logistics & delivery
Coordination of machinery transport from Richelieu to jobsites. Convoy planning based on SAAQ licence classes and Transports Québec restrictions (notably the spring thaw).
Civil engineering
Support for multi-equipment fleet rental with CCQ-certified operators for municipal and civil engineering projects. Covers roadwork, sewers, water mains and foundations.

Benco's founding partnership. Schäffer is one of Europe's leading manufacturers of articulated loaders, present in the agricultural, landscaping, civil engineering and industrial markets. The relationship, unbroken since 1970, makes Benco a unique Canadian anchor point for the brand.
Hitachi Construction Machinery
Lineup: Zaxis excavators, ZW-6 Series wheel loaders, Lift Truck forklifts
Benco distributes the Hitachi Construction Machinery lineup for civil engineering and industry. The ZW50 (4,195 kg operating weight, Kubota V2403 engine, 46 hp) covers the compact segment alongside the Schäffer loaders.
Caterpillar
Lineup: M-Series 906M, 907M, 908M compact loaders and Lift Truck forklifts
The Caterpillar M-Series Compact Wheel Loader lineup shares the 5-to-7-tonne segment with the Schäffer loaders. Cat C3.3B Tier 4 Final engine, 75 hp gross, hydrostatic transmission, ROPS/FOPS standard.
Transmanut
Lineup: Manual and electric pallet trucks, stackers, industrial trucks
French material handling manufacturer. Benco rounds out its loader offering with Transmanut pallet trucks for warehouse and industrial needs.
Erskine Attachments
Lineup: Attachments for skid steers, compact loaders and mini excavators: snow pushers, snow plows, snowblowers, buckets, grapples, augers and brooms
A manufacturer founded in 1948 (one of the world's pioneers of hydraulic snowblowers). Acquired by Bobcat in 1999, then independent again. Every Erskine attachment is fitted with the universal quick coupler compatible with the compact loaders distributed by Benco.

Lineup: Municipal sidewalk snow removers — models 3650MAX and 4670MAX
A Canadian adaptation of the Schäffer loaders to sidewalk snow removal needs for Canadian municipalities and contractors. The 3650MAX and 4670MAX models are assembled and configured for Quebec winter conditions.
