Sidewalk snow remover Benco-Schäffer, built for Quebec winters

Looking for a sidewalk snow remover to buy or rent in Quebec? Benco doesn't resell one, we build it. The Benco-Schäffer 3650MAX and 4670MAX are compact, articulated carrier machines that clear sidewalks and pedestrian paths, run blower, blade, broom or spreader on quick couplers, and keep working the rest of the year. Sale and seasonal rental, delivered across the South Shore from Richelieu.

We build it: Benco-Schäffer Municipal & commercial sidewalks Multi-attachment, 4 seasons 55+ years of Quebec winters

The carrier machine, not just an attachment

People mix up two things. A snow blower or a blade is an attachment: it mounts on something. A sidewalk snow remover is the carrier machine that runs on the sidewalk and takes those attachments. If you hold a municipal sidewalk contract, the carrier is what you need, and it's what Benco builds. If you already own a loader, an attachment alone may be enough, and we sell those too.

Benco-Schäffer vs the old Bombardier SW48

For decades the Bombardier SW48 was the sidewalk machine every Quebec contractor knew. Many are still running, and many are worn out. The Benco-Schäffer MAX carrier is the modern replacement: it steers by articulation, so it's gentle on curbs, pavers and turf instead of scuffing them; it has an enclosed, heated cab for the long 3 a.m. shifts; and its quick-couple system swaps blower, blade, broom and spreader in seconds rather than bolting on a single tool for the season.

Because the same carrier works past winter, on parks, grounds and light handling, a MAX doesn't sit idle eight months a year the way a single-season plow does. If you're aging out an SW48 fleet, standardizing a municipal contract or starting fresh, we compare your routes, sidewalk widths and abrasive needs, then match the 3650MAX or 4670MAX and the attachments to the job.

Season rental or purchase: how contractors decide

The simple rule we give contractors: if the machine runs more than about 300 hours a winter, or you hold recurring contracts over three years, buying pays off, and we offer financing. Below that, seasonal rental from November to April avoids tying up capital, summer storage and off-season maintenance. Plenty of our clients do both: they own their main carrier and rent extra units for peak periods or for new contracts that aren't locked in yet.

Whichever way you go, we prep every machine for winter in the workshop, cold-rated hydraulics, assisted starting, tires or tracks to match your surfaces, and we keep a dedicated parts inventory in Richelieu all season. Clients under contract get a priority replacement protocol, because a sidewalk route can't wait two days for a part when the storm is already here.

Frequently asked questions : sidewalk snow removers

What is a sidewalk snow remover?

It's a compact, narrow carrier machine built to clear snow on sidewalks and pedestrian paths where a truck or full-size loader can't fit. Ours, the Benco-Schäffer 3650MAX and 4670MAX, run several attachments (blower, blade, broom, spreader) on the same machine, so one unit handles a full winter contract and then works the rest of the year on landscaping and maintenance.

Benco-Schäffer or Bombardier SW48: what's the difference?

The Bombardier SW48 was the classic Quebec sidewalk machine for decades. The Benco-Schäffer MAX carrier is the modern alternative: articulated steering that's gentle on curbs and pavers, an enclosed heated cab, current-generation hydraulics for reliable cold starts, and quick-couple attachments you swap in seconds. If you're replacing an ageing SW48 fleet or standardizing a new contract, we'll walk you through the fit.

Do you rent sidewalk snow removers by the season?

Yes. Seasonal rental runs November to April, and units go fast: they're usually all booked before mid-October, because municipal and commercial contracts get signed in the fall. Many contractors combine a purchased main machine with rented units for peak periods or new contracts not yet confirmed. We also sell new and used, with financing.

Which attachments fit the sidewalk carrier?

Snow blower for hardened banks, angle blade for pushing, broom for the first light snowfalls and end-of-season abrasive cleanup, and hopper spreader for salt and abrasives. All on Erskine quick couplers, swapped in under a minute, so the same machine clears, throws and treats in one pass sequence.

Can it work outside winter?

That's the point of the carrier design. Off-season it takes a bucket, forks, a sweeper or a mower deck, so municipalities and contractors keep it working year-round on parks, grounds and light material handling instead of parking a single-season machine for eight months.

Do you deliver and service across Montérégie?

Yes. Our yard is at 2252 Rang de la Savane, Richelieu (J3L 8C2), and we deliver across the South Shore, Montérégie and beyond. Parts and service run all season from Richelieu, and clients under contract get a priority replacement protocol if a machine goes down mid-storm.
